Dermatitis

Do you suffer from any skin problems ?

Industrial dermatitis (sometimes referred to as contact dermatitis) can cause a great deal of discomfort and distress to sufferers. Often the dermatitis will affect the individual in ‘attacks’ or flare ups and so may disappear for long periods only to reappear without any warning or trigger. It is a condition that many suffers try to cope with without seeking expert medical advice, turning to over the counter medication and creams for relief as symptoms can recede over the course of a few days and people are loathed to bother their family doctor.

In other cases, individuals may have suffered from childhood skin complaints such as eczema and mistakenly think that the dermatitis is connected to this and so again do not think to consult with their doctor or make an industrial link.

Dermatitis can be caused by a range of substances and agents in common use in UK industry today. The list is almost endless but in the past our staff have investigated claims for dermatitis linked to wood dust/MDF dust, cleaning products, leather tanning chemicals, latex exposure from protective gloves amongst others.
